For the examination of biological samples, e.g. thin sections of plants, blood and bacteria smears, water organisms and parasites a biological microscope suits best. Per definition this is a microscope with an objective turret (also called revolving nosepiece) which takes up several achromatic or plan-achromatic objectives. The illumination comes from a light source below and will pass through the sample. High quality microscopes will concentrate and focus the light by means of an adjustable Abbe condenser which might be combined to the so called “full Köhler” illumination with an additional collector lens, aperture and light field diaphragm. This illumination gives the optimal light path through your sample. For colorless or low contrast samples, a dark field condenser or phase contrast set can be added.

The ergonomics and comfort of use depends on the specifications of the microscope. To find your microscope, look for a smooth and precisely adjustable coaxial cross table with sample holder, coarse and fine focusing, a bright, adjustable LED or tungsten light source on a binocular head with wide field eyepieces. A trinocular head will allow permanent installation of a camera.

Biological microscopes can be used in a variety of applications. It may be used for hobby as well as life science, medicine, schools, university research and industry. Applications like microbiology, materials inspections, sampling of water or activated sludge, control of parasites in gardening, farming and agriculture, animal breeding and aquatics can be covered with a biological microscope.

You can find specialised biological microscopes, e.g. inverted microscopes for cell culture or activated sludge, polarization microscopes for geology, mineralogy and materials testing in our shop as well as combined incident/transmitted light including polarization or fluorescence.
